RoadReady Ohio App

Inexperience is the #1 reason why new drivers crash – and the only way to gain experience is through supervised practice! Ohio’s new phone app, RoadReady Ohio, provides tools to log the required hours of practice new drivers need, while also providing real-time telematic feedback and tips.

How Does it Work?

The app uses cell phone telematics data to log a student driver’s practice time and provide post-drive feedback to driving supervisors based on their performance.

To track a student’s driving hours, the app requires a student account and a driving supervisor account. The two accounts will be linked, so that both individuals can see the student’s progress. The driving time and data are logged from the driving supervisor’s phone.

Completing Lessons

Lessons are available as a guide and to help families make the most of their supervised driving practice. You can access these lessons by clicking on the “Lessons” icon at the bottom of the app. Start with the Beginner lessons, and work your way up to Intermediate and Advanced as your Student Driver gains more experience and confidence. It’s always a good idea to review lessons before working on a skill with your Student Driver.

After a logged drive, the app telematics will show how the Student Driver performed in four specific driving behaviors: speeding, hard braking, acceleration and sharp turning. The app will make recommendations based on the Student Driver’s scores and the type of drive. Reviewing relevant lessons after a drive can help both the Driving Supervisor and Student understand what might have happened during their recent drive and how to improve for future drives.  Lessons can be reviewed multiple times to reinforce content.

Logging Drives

All drives must be logged from the Driving Supervisor’s phone. To start a new drive, click the red circle with the “+” in the center on the bottom of the Driving Supervisor home page and click “New Drive.”

  • Read the Quick Reminders for Logging a New Drive and click the “Start” button on the bottom of the screen.
  • When you are finished with your drive, click the “Finish Drive” button, and select the driving environment that best describes where the drive took place.
  • The drive scores and recommendations will populate on the screen.
  • To record a drive that has already occurred, click the red circle with the “+” in the center of the bottom of the Driving Supervisor home page, and select “Log Previous Drive.”
    • Enter the information about that drive and click “Validate.”

Downloading Your Affidavit

Once you have completed your required practice hours, you can download your Affidavit and driving log.

  • Click on the “Driving Log” tab on the home screen of either the Driving Supervisor or Student Driver account.
  • Then, click “Export Driving Report.”
  • You can download the Affidavit Report document to your phone by clicking the download icon in the top right corner.
  • A copy of the Affidavit Report will also be emailed to you.
  • Print off the Affidavit Report, fill it out, have it notarized and bring it to your driving skills test.
